We bought a house!

On Monday, I took a tour of two houses with a realtor. I liked one in particular. A couple hours later, I got a message that an offer had been made on it. I quickly conferred with my fiance and we put a bid in also. On Tuesday, I got a message that the seller wanted the highest and best bids from both interested parties. After consultations with both of our moms, we went with our top dollar. On Wednesday morning, I got a call that our offer was accepted and the house was ours! Today is Friday, and let me tell you, my mind has not stopped racing with decorating ideas and worst case scenarios about the upstairs floor collapsing.

Let me explain...

This house was built in 1926 and is a foreclosure property. It is about 1300 sq feet (finished) excluding an unfinished basement and single detached garage. The backyard is wonderful and expansive (for being in town) and there is so much charm in the wood flooring and arched doorways that I just fell in love. It needs quite a bit of work (I'll be posting pictures soon) but I saw so much potential in this fixer upper that I couldn't let it get away. Right off the bat, we know we need to get out the carpet in the living room and upstairs, update the wiring (because it's knob and tube and I guess that isn't good), check out the plumbing because of a winterization process gone wrong, and tear down the wallpaper. Oh yeah, and repaint every square inch of painted surface in the house, replace the light fixtures and curtains, and refinish the floors. And put in new windows. And shingles soon. But we got a great deal! There is a lot to love and a lot to hate (at the moment). But this is the start of a long, rewarding (in theory) process, and you get a front row seat to the action! Hopefully by the time we get our to-do list a little shorter, we will have changed the to-hate parts into the to-love parts, all while making a home for our family and increasing our investment.

We close in January, so here's to the new year and to new projects!
